The U12 AA Tournament couldn’t have been any more exciting that it was on Sunday.  The finals saw a matchup of two of the provinces top U12 girls teams with the Blazers Team Luc taking on GCBA Wolverines.  Both teams went 3-0 to earn their spot in the gold medal game.  The championship game was a high energy, battle between size and speed.  The Blazers took an early lead and GCBA fought back.  The game was tied going into the last 4 minute shift at 33.  The Blazers came out with their speed and turned the intensity on defense up, with the Blazers outscoring them 6-1 in the final shift to take the championship 39-34.

The bronze medal game was also a very exciting game with Ottawa Shooting Stars taking on Nepean.  The game went to Overtime with OSS taking the 36-34 win and claiming the Bronze.

The U12 A Tournament saw an overtime game in the round robing between the two eventual teams in the Finals.  In their first meeting, Russell Rockets defeated the Kingston Impact by a single point in OT with Kingston missing 3 chances to take the win or tie it.  They both won in their semi finals matchups, Russell over the host Blazers Team Dennis, and Kingston over Belleville.  In the gold medal game, the Impact came out hot and took an early double digit lead, but Russell fought back behind their long distance shooting to take a lead in the second half.  But Kingston overcame and pulled away to collect the Gold medal.

In the Bronze medal matchup, the Blazers faced Belleville for a second time in the tourney.  The Blazers scored the first basket of the game, but went on an epic cold streak, not being able to score for the next 5 periods, trailing 21-2 after 6 periods.  In the 7th, they managed to get their next shot to go in setting up a very exciting 8th period.  The Blazers went on a defensive run making steals, getting rebounds which led to the ball going in.  The Blazers got the lead cut to 3 at 23-20 before Belleville’s young guards managed to score a basket and the game ended with a score of 27-22 Spirits to claim the Bronze.  Great game and the Blazers hope to continue that last shift into their league games.
