On Friday evening the team came out for a tough defensive battle with Kingston Impact, especially in the first half. The Blazers’ tough press was extremely hard to handle and dominated their opponents in the second half, winning convincingly 45-18.

Saturday the team defeated the Brantford Briers by 14 points. The second game on Saturday was a tough battle against a high seed; North Region Crazy Cats. Blazers played a solid first half, but led by only a basket going into the third quarter. The team was able to alter their style of play by changing the defense and adapting a power driven offense to help them take control of the game. They played an exceptional second half to upset their opponent with the outcome score of 62-43, solidifying a first place spot for them in their pool play.

Sunday, all members of the team were excited to head into the gold medal game and take on a tough match up – the stronger and bigger Mississauga Monarchs, also ranked#1. With an exploding vocal crowd of the home favorites the Blazers came out “burning” from tip-off, taking a 8-0 lead. In the second half, the girls made up their mind to play their game and dominate their expertise for the last 2 quarters. Although the Monarchs came within 8 points, the Blazers were too much for them to handle to pull off the win. The final score for the gold medal game was 47-24.

Each and every team member scored in each game and had moments of greatness through rebounds, steals off the press, making that much needed assist or hitting the timely basket. When they needed to step up, the Blazers had no problem showing the other teams what they were made of. Both the team’s defense and offense were extremely strong all weekend. As it is said, working as a team makes great things happen, and the Bantam girls team proved that each day of the tournament. The coaching staff could not be more proud of these 12 young women, and it was a pleasure for them to coach such a talented and devoted group of girls. We would also like to thank all of our incredible parents with their support and kind words throughout the season. Parent commitment is just as important to the season as player commitment and it is the parents that are key to our success and support. We are incredibly thankful to have had such an amazing group to help make this season one of the best.

Well done Bantam Girls CONGRATS!!!![/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
