COMPETITIVE PLAYER TRAINING PODS

—-> CLICK HERE TO REGISTER <—-

What are the Blazers Competitive Player Training Pod?

Training pods will be for experienced competitive skill level players. Pods will have a maximum of 15 players who will train with Blazers coaches through the Fall. It is our hope that each pod will split time between cardio and strength conditioning and skill development in a gym. Other options may be included as well.

All training will run in accordance with Ontario Basketball’s Phase 3 of Return to Play, whereby players are distanced and activities modified to prevent contact. Players can only participate in one pod; there will be no mixing of pods or transfers of players between.
https://basketball.on.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/OBA-RTP-Phase-3-V1-072420.pdf

As per Ontario Basketball’s recommendation, we will not be running tryouts for Blazer competitive teams at this time. Instead, this training program is being offered to RETURNING PLAYERS ONLY. Any returning player of experienced competitive skill level may register their interest in being selected for a training pod.

NOTE: Not all players who register for training pods at this time may be selected to a training pod, due to limited space and facilities. However, ALL players interested in the program need to register – As facilities become available, additional pods will be formed through the Fall period.

What else do I need to know about training pods?

– Days of the week will be selected based on coach, Blazers and facility availablity.
– The pods will take place in Brockville at a private facility.
– This program will be offered on a cost-recovery basis. We expect around $50 for the 10 weeks, but that is to be determined.
– Must be willing to follow all Covid-19 protocol in place at facility.
– Players must fill out OBA waiver, Facility waiver, and playing waiver prior to first session.

Our first training pods formed will be for experienced competitive level players. Candidates being named to these training pods will be notified prior to beginning week of Sept 21st.

YOU MUST HAVE PRE-REGISTERED FOR THE BLAZERS PRIOR TO BEING ACCEPTED TO TRAINING PODS. LINK BELOW

How will training pods be formed?
Training pods will be selected by our Executives and Coaches and via consultation with past coaches of players indicating interest.

Pods of 15 players maximum will be formed to create a group of similar skill/goals for improvement. As many pods as can be supported via facilities will be created, based on demand of those registering interest.

If Brockville Blazers have the facility capacity to include additional age groups or skill levels, an opportunity will be provided to those players to register at that time.

PRE-REGISTRATION FOR PLAYERS 2020-21

THE BLAZERS REALIZE WE ARE IN A DIFFERENT TIME BUT WANT TO BE PROACTIVE WITH OUR REGISTRATION.  WE ARE TAKING NAMES OF PLAYERS FOR THE COMPETITIVE PROGRAMS AND WE WILL USE THIS TO CONTACT INTERESTED PLAYERS THROUGH THE FALL AS THE BASKETBALL LANDSCAPE MAY CHANGE.

THE LINK TO THE APPLICATION FORM IS THE TITLE ABOVE.

COACHING APPLICATIONS 2020-21

WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2020-21 SEASON FOR ALL LEVELS OF BASKETBALL. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL BE REVIEWED BY THE EXECUTIVE. THE EXECUTIVE IF NECESSARY, WILL CONDUCT INTERVIEWS WITH CANDIDATES TO HELP CHOSE THE APPROPRIATE CANDIDATE FOR EACH TEAM.

There is no specific date for closing of taking applications but teams will be filled and announced when there has been suitable selections made. If there are multiple coaches applying for head coach role for one age level, executive members will conduct interviews to determine successful coaching applicants.

Reminder that taking your NCCP course but not getting certified is the same as not taking it all. We highly recommend getting certification done as these will play into the selection process.

ROWAN’S LAW

In honor of the memory of Rowan Stringer, the last Wednesday of September starting this year has been dubbed Rowan’s Law Day, as a commemoration to raise awareness about concussions in sport. Rowan’s Law is now required to be acknowledged by parents, coaches and players.

#RowansLawDay  http://www.mtc.gov.on.ca/en/sport/rowans_law_day.shtml

Rowan’s Law requires all players under 26 years of age and all parents/guardians of players under 18 years of age and coaches to review Ontario’s Concussion Awareness Resources and OBA’s Concussion Policy and Code of Conduct on a yearly basis.

Ontario’s Concussion Awareness Resources, which can be found here (https://basketball.on.ca/coaching/concussion-resources/).

OBA’s Concussion Policy and Code of Conduct, which can be found here (https://basketball.on.ca/about-us/policies-and-procedures/concussion-policy-code-of-conduct/).
