The Major Atom girls hosted their tournament on January 27-28 in Brockville. They had some close games and played some of their best basketball of the year.
In their first game they fell 45-41 to Ottawa Next Level. Game 2 on Saturday had them up against a hot shooting Kingston Impact team. The game was much closer than the 45-25 final score.
Sunday morning, they faced Ottawa South Bedrock who had beat the Blazers a few weeks earlier. This time the Blazers came out and adjusted but just came up short again 33-26. This placed them in the Bronze Medal game vs Ottawa Next Level.
In the bronze medal game, the Blazers were up 1 at halftime, but a few calls that didn’t go their way put the game away as they fell 31-26.
In the gold medal game, Ottawa South avenged a round robin loss to Kingston Impact, by defeating them 33-28 to win gold.
Coach Andrea introduced the girls to some pregame team building exercises and ancient monk-like chants.
The girls seemed to really get into it.
