The Bantam Boys and Girls completed the Gold Medal Sweep in the final 2018 Stacey Dales Invitational Tournament. The boys and girls both went 4-0 en route to their championships.
In the girls division, the Blazers took down Kemptville, Perth and Nepean to make their way into the finals against Ottawa Next Level. The championship game was one for the ages as the two teams went back and forth through the game. ONL took a 12 point lead early in the second half and the Blazers battled back to take the lead. ONL went up three with less than a minute left but the Blazers didn’t give up. A quick 2 point shot by Aislinn Davey cut the lead to one. A turnover by ONL gave the Blazers one last shot with 1.9 seconds left. Sydney Jardine inbounded the ball a bit far, but Kaylee Moorhouse chased down the loose ball and launched a 30 foot 3 pointer that hit nothing but net to give the Blazers the gold medal in dramatic fashion.
The Boys beat Ottawa Shooting Stars, Ottawa South Bedrock 2 and Nepean Blue devils on their way to the gold medal game against the Ottawa South Bedrock U14 team. In the finals, the boys played a tough defense and the first half didn’t see a lot of points. But in the second half, their O came alive and they ran away with the 33-27 win to claim gold.
Following the two games, the teams congregated at the Barley Mow to celebrate the double gold medals.
